We are a family business from Upper Bavaria, now in its fourth generation! This gives us over 70 years of experience in leather goods, which is reflected in the quality of our products. We combine rustic design with modern elements, and this has allowed us to successfully create our brand, Hodalump & Ratschkatl®.

Our leather wallets and accessories are made from natural and renewable raw materials. All products are handcrafted from high-quality leathers and are built to last a lifetime for our customers. In the production of our leather goods, we only use naturally tanned leather that comes from the food chain. This ensures that we handle the resources of nature responsibly and in an environmentally conscious way.

Why are your wallets so extremely durable?
It's simple: we craft our wallets exclusively by hand from full-grain buffalo leather, which is considered the toughest leather in the world. Additionally, we seal the surface of the wallets using a special sanding technique. During use, this leather develops a lively patina that highlights the unique character of this expressive material.

What exactly is a Hodalump?
A Hodalump is a cheeky guy with a bit of mischief up his sleeve. He’s funny, knows everything better, and no one can fool him! He’s the alpha, the boss, or simply put – a Hodalump.

How Leather Goods are Made at Hodalump & Ratschkatl
The intricate production process of a handcrafted piece at Hodalump & Ratschkatl is a true act of craftsmanship, requiring precise handwork and decades of experience.

1. Material Selection: The process begins with the careful selection of high-quality materials. Only the best full-grain buffalo, goat, or cowhide leather, which is naturally tanned and comes from the food chain, is used for our leather goods.
2. Cutting: Experienced craftsmen cut the leather into precise shapes according to the product's design. Each piece is individually cut to ensure it fits perfectly and showcases the natural grain of the leather.
3. Sewing and Double Stitching: The individual parts are carefully hand-stitched. Special attention is paid to the double stitching at the most critical points of the product, which not only ensures a strong bond but is also a distinctive feature of our products.
4. Oiling and Tanning: After sewing, the leather goods are treated with high-quality vegetable oils to make the leather supple and enhance its natural color. This step also gives the leather some resistance to external influences.
5. Finishing and Patina: Through a special sanding technique, the surface is sealed, which not only creates a beautiful sheen but also allows a vibrant patina to develop. This patina evolves over time, making each wallet a unique piece.
6. Quality Control: Every product undergoes strict quality controls to ensure it meets our high standards. Despite these checks, it can occasionally happen that a seam comes undone due to the individual characteristics of the leather. Therefore, each order automatically includes a 2-year guarantee: if a manufacturing defect occurs, simply contact us and we will send you a replacement free of charge.
