Father's Day is the occasion with the worst gifts of the year. Not because nobody makes an effort, but because it works differently from Christmas: it happens outdoors, it lasts a single day, and half of all Father's Day presents are decided the evening before.
Something useful follows from that. What lands well on Father's Day isn't what he uses all year round — that's the Christmas question. It's what he has with him on the day itself.
When Father's Day falls, and why that matters for your choice
In Germany, Father's Day falls on Ascension Day, so in 2027 that means 6 May. Always a Thursday, always a public holiday, usually early to mid-May — and therefore on a date when you can be outside, but don't have to be. May means twenty degrees in the afternoon, ten in the evening, and rain is a fair bet.
That narrows the choice down usefully. Whatever comes along on Father's Day has to work outdoors, it has to be worn or carried all day, and it shouldn't break if it ends up lying in the grass.
