Outlet – discontinued genuine leather at reduced prices

The Hodalump Outlet holds the models we are not making again: single colours, small runs, pieces from earlier collections. Nothing changes in the leather or the workmanship — it is the same material and the same production as in the regular range. The only thing that changes is availability. Once a colour has sold out, it is not restocked. That is precisely the appeal: whoever finds something here gets a piece that will not lie on the shelf in this form a second time.

What you will find in the Outlet

The stock changes constantly, so it is worth looking in regularly. Most of the time there are wallets in various sizes and card holders, plus individual leather belts, bags and cases. Sometimes there are only one or two of a model, sometimes a whole colour range. If you are looking for a particular model in a particular finish, the matching category is quicker — the Outlet is more something to browse than to search through.

The Outlet is useful above all for two occasions. First as a gift: a card holder or a small genuine leather wallet looks well made but costs less here than in the regular range. Second as a second piece — many people use a compact wallet day to day and a larger one when travelling, without wanting to pay the full price twice.

Discontinued does not mean second choice

A model ends up in the Outlet for entirely sober reasons: a colour did not catch on, a cut was revised, a few pieces of a run are left over. None of these reasons has anything to do with quality. You get the same genuine leather, the same seams and the same care — simply at a reduced price, because the model is being discontinued. The rights of complaint and return apply unchanged; a reduced price does not limit your rights.

This has to be distinguished from the term B-stock. B-stock has a visible defect and is labelled as such. What is in the Outlet is flawless new goods. The only difference from the regular range is that it will not be reordered.

Leather gets better with the years

Untreated leather takes on a patina of its own over time. Edges darken, the surface becomes softer and more supple, marks of use settle in rather than stand out. A wallet that has spent three years in a trouser pocket looks different from how it did on the first day — and most people find it more attractive that way. That is exactly why a discontinued model is worth it twice over: it starts out cheaper and gains character all the same.

For that to go well, leather needs little attention, but it needs it regularly. Applying leather grease or leather care thinly two or three times a year is enough to keep the material supple and stop it drying out. Never dry wet pieces on a radiator; leave them lying at room temperature — otherwise the leather turns hard and brittle.

Finding the right size

Because the Outlet does not hold every model in every size, it helps to know what to look out for. Two questions decide it: how many cards do you carry every day, and do you pay in cash? If you rarely need coins, a card holder or a slim wallet will do — both stay flat enough for the front trouser pocket. If you collect change and carry more than eight cards, a large wallet with a coin compartment is the better choice.

A second point is RFID protection. Many models in the range have shielding worked in that prevents contactless cards from being read without your noticing. Whether an Outlet piece comes with the protection is stated in its product description — it cannot be retrofitted.

While stocks last

Quantities in the Outlet are limited and are not replenished. If you do not yet find anything suitable, you may find it in the Sale — that holds permanently reduced models which stay in the range and are reordered. And if it has to be a particular model in a particular colour, the men's wallets and women's purses get you there faster than searching through remainders.
