It nourishes the leather deep down, keeps it supple and reliably protects it against damp, drying out and cracking. That way your leather stays not only good-looking but long-lasting.

The natural formula cares gently for the leather without discolouring it or leaving it sticky. Simply apply a thin layer, let it soak in and enjoy the result: noticeably nourished, water-repellent and hard-wearing leather with a silky matt sheen. A family business since 1947
We are a family business from Upper Bavaria – now in its fourth generation. That gives us knowledge of leather goods going back to 1947, and it shows in the quality of our products.

We combine rustic design with a modern touch, and that is how we built our brand Hodalump & Ratschkatl®.

Our wallets and accessories are made from natural, renewable raw materials. All products are made from high-quality leather entirely by hand and become loyal companions to our customers.

We use only natural leather sourced from the food chain. This ensures that we treat nature's resources responsibly and with respect for the environment.

Why are your wallets so extremely durable?
It is quite simple: we make our wallets exclusively by hand from genuine full-grain buffalo leather, considered the toughest leather in the world. We also seal the surface using a special sanding technique. As you use the wallet, a living patina develops that underlines the individual character of this expressive leather.

What exactly is a Hodalump?
A Hodalump is, roughly translated, a cheeky fellow with a few tricks up his sleeve.

He is funny, knows everything better, and nobody puts anything past him!

He is the alpha, the boss – or simply put, a Hodalump.

Care instructions:
Clean the surface thoroughly with a damp cloth. Then apply leather care (available from us) with a soft, clean cloth and massage it in gently. Avoid chemical cleaning agents.

Safety notes:
✔ Material behaviour: As this is a natural product, the colour may change slightly due to external influences such as moisture.
✔ Use: Do not store the product near open flames or extreme temperatures.
✔ Note for allergy sufferers: Genuine leather may contain natural and chemical tanning agents. Sensitive skin may react to them.

Care: keeping it looking good for years

Leather is skin. It dries out, and dried-out leather cracks — almost always first where it is bent every day: at the fold of a wallet, along the holes of a belt, where a strap meets the body. That kind of damage cannot be repaired. Everything else can.

Prevention takes little effort. Two or three times a year, a thin layer of leather grease, left to soak in, done. After a proper downpour or a Wiesn season, sooner. Our leather grease nourishes the leather, keeps it supple and makes it water-repellent without discolouring it or leaving it sticky.

The amount matters: apply it thinly. A thick layer does not give you better-kept leather, just a greasy surface that holds dust. And leather does not like heat — not on the radiator, not in direct sun, not in the tumble dryer. Leather that has got wet dries slowly at room temperature, and is only greased afterwards.

None of this applies to suede and nubuck. There, grease seals the open surface and leaves it dark and blotchy — those pieces are brushed dry.

How leather goods are made at Hodalump & Ratschkatl
Behind every single piece from Hodalump & Ratschkatl lies genuine craftsmanship: decades of experience, precise handwork and a passion for detail that you can see – and feel.

1. Choosing the material: The process begins with the careful selection of high-quality materials. Only the best full-grain buffalo, goat or cowhide leather – sourced from the food chain and left natural – is used for our leather goods.

2. Cutting: Experienced craftspeople cut the leather into precise shapes according to the product design. Every piece is cut individually to make sure it fits perfectly and shows the natural grain of the leather at its best.

3. Stitching and double seams: The individual parts are carefully sewn together by hand. Particular attention goes to the double seam at the most demanding points of the product, which not only creates a robust join but is also a hallmark of our products.

4. Oiling and tanning: After stitching, the leather goods are oiled with high-quality vegetable oil to make the leather supple and bring out its natural colour. This step also gives the leather a certain resistance to external influences.

5. Finishing and patina: A special sanding technique seals the surface, which not only creates a beautiful sheen but also allows a living patina to develop. This patina keeps evolving over time and makes every wallet unique.

6. Quality control: Every product passes the strictest quality checks to make sure it meets our high standards. Despite these checks, a seam occasionally comes loose because of the individual nature of the leather. Every order therefore comes with an automatic two-year guarantee: should a manufacturing fault occur, simply contact us and we will send you a replacement free of charge.
